Payment for hoodies and polo shirts (0)

7:47 AM by , under

Hello everyone!!

A huge thank you to everyone who attended the Secret Santa event which was a success despite Azura's sudden 'twist' to it yesterday evening! Oh yes, and both the guys and gals looked resplendent in their respective evening wear! =)

Anyway, as mentioned yesterday, the price of the Hoodie is 20 pounds whereas the price of the Polo T-Shirt is 19 pounds.

For those of you who have placed orders for the shirt/hoodie but have yet to make payment, Azura will be at the Red Couch Lounge at Keynes College (next to K-Bar) on FRIDAY (12/12/08) between 11am-12pm to collect payment.

Alternatively, you can hand the money to either Ali or Azura.
Please do make your payments by Friday as Azura will have to pay the printer on Friday afternoon itself. =)

Cheers,
Suk Yein

Pre-Secret Santa Party 27/11 (0)

9:38 AM by , under

Hello there

As you all know, we had a society meeting last Thursday at the Keynes Lecture Theatre (KLT1). Big place btw...such a waste that not everyone came to fill up such a huge lecture room. However, ‘waste’ is hardly the right word to describe the meeting itself because there were many things that we discussed. So for those of you who missed the meeting or have short term memory, here’s a brief recap of the things we discussed:

Pre-Secret Santa

The main purpose of the meeting was the pre-Secret Santa event where we all write our names in a piece of paper and then randomly pick another paper with someone else’s name. Then you will have to buy that person some gift. Simple. However, there are few things to note:

  • Secret Santa event will be on the 9th of December (Tuesday) – so you have one week plus to buy gifts (although I’m sure many will do the shopping on the Monday before that day :-P)

  • MUST WEAR FORMAL CLOTHING. No Jeans. No T-Shirts. No Selipar. No Seluar Pendek. For Men, if you don’t have any suits then just wear something smart.

  • Please do not give ‘rubbish’ gifts (although what qualifies as a rubbish gift depends on the person hehe)

MB-Soc Uniform

Another important thing that was discussed was about a new official Malaysian-Brunei Society Uniform. We are planning to have two types of uniform:

  • A Polo shirt – Dark Blue colour, your name, Kent Logo

  • A ‘Hoodie’ – Red, your name, MBSOC logo

During the meeting, we passed a sheet around members of the society who are interested in having one so that they could fill up their preferences (Polo/Hoodie/both, Size, name to be put on the shirt). For those of you who are interested but did not attend the meeting contact the President or any of us committee members.

The price has not been decided yet as of now...I know, I know...that’s the first question that runs through everyone’s mind...but we will inform you ASAP

Movie Night

Last but not least, the current plan is to hold another Movie Night this upcoming Friday. Our last movie night was really fun (despite how a lot of girls complained about not coming because we were showing a horror movie, there were actually MORE GIRLS that came than guys LOL). What we are planning now is to have a theme for this upcoming movie night and that is ‘Classical Malay Movies’ which is basically P.Ramlee movies. We will post another poll in this blog, as soon as we confirm the availability of the movies. So for those of you who have P.RAmlee movies, plz contact us.

***

Ok, I guess that’s all for now

Nawawi, signing off~

Pre-Secret Santa Party (0)

12:16 PM by , under

Again, a reminder to all of you about the Pre-Secret Santa Party. It will be held THIS THURSDAY (27/11) at the KEYNES LECTURE THEATRE1 from 6PM-8PM.

And another thing to add, on the same night, the society will be having a charity. Since christmas is all about the spirit of giving gifts, why not give away a pound or two pounds or more by which the money will then be donated to a children's charity.

To those of you who have any unwanted items (eg. clothes, books, bags & etc) you can bring them along to our pre-secret santa meeting and give them to us and we will give them to Oxfam. But make sure the items that you plan to donate are still in good conditions =)

Alright, thats all I have to say and see you on this Thursday!
Cheers.

Pre-Secret Santa!!! (0)

2:06 PM by , under

Hello everyone!!!!

Busy with your assessments and rushing through assignments? =) I understand the following weeks will be extremely busy for all of you.. and it IS rather difficult to concentrate when we know the holidays are coming up!! For me, that is! I am simply counting the days to the 19th when the hols finally begin!

We've got some very, very exciting news for all of you! The Pre-Secret Santa party will be held NEXT THURSDAY (27TH NOVEMBER) at the KEYNES LECTURE THEATRE 1 from 6PM - 8PM.

For those who are not familiar with Secret Santa, I've hyperlinked it to the trustworthy Wikipedia for your reading pleasure. =) In other words, it's a game where you buy a gift for someone else and vice-versa without the person knowing you are their Secret Santa!! This goes in conjunction with our yearly Christmas celebration albeit a little early!! =)

This would most probably be something new for the first years as well as the postgrads so do come and join us at the event!! For the rest of you, we are having a different theme this time *wink* so do come along to the meeting and find out what lies in store for you!!!

Looking forward to seeing all of you next Thursday!!! Take care!

Cheers,
Suk Yein

So Shutter It Is (0)

2:44 PM by , under

Wow. 808 votes? I didnt know our members are as big as that. Obviously someone voted more than once hahaha. 397 votes for Shutter and 392 votes for Kung-Fu Panda. Each of the remaining titles was voted by less than 10 people which is extremely minute compare to the two "over-voted" titles haha.

Anyway, I know some of you are not happy with the results. But like it or not we're going to watch shutter tomorrow night. For those of you who do not know what "Shutter" is, it is a romantic movie as quoted by Nawawi. Trust me, it is a really good movie. Watching it will make you burst into tears hahaha. I hope a lot of people will show up tomorrow night. So please come and lets watch the romantic "Shutter" movie together. Ok see you guys tomorrow.

DeepaRaya Celebration & Society Meeting (0)

12:22 AM by , under

You guys probably have received the DeepaRaya celebration e.mail from Suk Yein. Anyways, Im gonna post it again here.

Hello everyone!!

First of all, I would like to apologise for the really late update as the committee has been running around trying to book a suitable venue for our DeepaRaya event and at the same time, register for the Malaysian Nottingham Games.

Here are the details for our DeepaRaya event:

Venue: DARWIN MISSING LINK
Date: 1ST OF NOVEMBER 2008 (Saturday)
Time: 6.00PM - 10.00PM

Please note the change of date. There has been many changes to the date mainly due to the booking of the rooms as we've tried our very best to hold this event within the Syawal Month. So, to all the Muslims out there, I would like to say 'beribu-ribu maaf' as all the major event rooms have been booked from the 24th of October onwards and this is the best available date.

The ticket price for this event is 3.50 pounds.

We are planning to have a few performances as well as games so to all those interested in performing (be it singing/dancing/whatever) or if you have any interesting games in mind, please do e-mail Ben (bmks2) and let him know by this Friday (24/10) please!

As this is a potluck event, feel free to bring food to the event but please let Ali (aah23) know beforehand alright? We wouldn't want people to bring too much of the same type of food over! =)

Here's a list of food in which some of our lovely members have volunteered to bring. Hopefully, with all of your contributions, I'll be able to make a huge long list! =)

1. Nasi Goreng @ Fried Rice (vegetarian)
2. Cucur Udang @ Prawn Fritters
3. Popiah @ Spring Rolls
4. Chicken Rendang and Nasi Impit @ Ketupat
5. Lontong @ Vegetable Curry
6. Soft Drinks

Moving on to our second major event - the Malaysian Nottingham Games. Practice sessions for participants will be sent out to everyone. If you are interested in just coming along to support our teams and also meet up with your friends (a lot of people are going to be there!! Not to mention tons of MALAYSIAN FOOD!!), please e-mail Azura (nc72) or me (syk2)!

I'll inform you as soon as possible on the transport cost.

Finally, we will be holding a Society Meeting to discuss these events. Details are as below:

Venue: RLT1 (Rutherford Lecture Theatre 1)
Date: 24th October 2008 (This coming Friday!!)
Time: 6.00pm - 8.00pm.

We have also noticed that most people have difficulties with the Kent Union website, having to go through so many procedures to register as members of the MBSoc. Well, don't worry as we will be setting up laptops to help you through this rather painstaking process!!

All you've got to do is bring your DEBIT/CREDIT card to the meeting on Friday!!

Hmm, this is a rather lengthy e-mail. Okay, I'll just sum up a to-bring list for all of you! ;-)

1. Debit/Credit Card to register as a member of the MBSoc.
2. 3.50 pounds for the DeepaRaya event.

Looking forward to seeing you on Friday and do take care! =)

Warmest wishes,
Suk Yein
